Cardiometabolic Complication

Posted on 20.20 by Unknown

Several Cardiometabolic alterations have been associated with OSA, inependent obesity. The pathophycologic effect of repetitive collapse of the upper airway includes release of catecholamines. Increased respiratory effort with hypoxia and snoring are commonly associated at the end of of hapnea. Both effort and hypoxia seem to play a role in catecholimine release, but which of the two mechanism predominates is being investigated. The effect on the autonomic nervous system that results from catecholamines is likely a major factor in the development of hypertension and cardiovascular complications.

TREATMENT
Weight loss may be an effective therapy, especially in overweight and obese patients, who may comprise > 70% of subjects with OSA,. Weight loss has been shown to reduce the severity and symptons of OSA and sometimes, though not always, result in its complete resolution.
