cardiometabolic complication

Obesity is considered a major risk factor for development and progression of OSA. Fat deposition in the tissues surrounding the upper airway appears to result in a smaller lumen and increased collapsibility of the upper airway, predisposing to apnea. Osa Itself may cause of worsen obesity. The mechanism of this correlation is probably multifactorial. Include lifestyle and endocrine dysregulation. Weight loss appears to confer benefits not only on OSA severity but also in terms of mitigating cardiometabolic consequences related to both OSA and obesity. Unfortunately, weight loss through diet, exercise and/or medications has been hard to achieve and maintain.
